The 2010 Red Burgundies (Feb 2012)

The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses is initially rather cool and inward, then blossoms gradually with time in the glass. It is a beautifully poised, centered wine endowed with tremendous focus and inner calm. Red berries, spices, crushed flowers and saline notes all continue to build as the wine works its way to the boisterous finish….

2010 Red Burgundies (Jan 2012)

Good deep red. Pungent aromas of tangy raspberry and crushed rock. Wonderfully lush and complex, especially for such a pristine, primary wine. Tangy flavors of cherry, fresh raspberry, pomegranate and licorice are lifted by strong floral and mineral elements. Wonderfully dense, precise and long, conveying an impression of tautness without any hardness. Potentially stunning.

The Comedown: Bordeaux 2011 Ten-Years-On (Apr 2022)

The 2011 Cos d’Estournel shows quite a bit of extraction on the nose with brambly red fruit, blackcurrant, iris flower and cedar, gaining cohesion with time in the glass. The palate is ripe and chewy, good depth but broad-shouldered, again, maybe a little heavy on the extraction, whilst the finish feels a little monotone. Difficult…

2011 Bordeaux from the Bottle (Jul 2014)

Good deep ruby. Spicy aromas of dark plum, red cherry, botanical herbs and graphite. Dense, bright and energetic, with good herbal lift to the precise blackcurrant and dark plum flavors. This fresh, lively wine picks up flesh and depth with aeration. The tactile, chewy finish is pure, long and perfumed.

Southwold: 2016 Bordeaux Blind (Aug 2020)

The 2016 Pavie is powerful and rich on the nose, and more decadent than the 2016 Angélus, featuring iodine-tinged blackberry and blueberry fruit and noticeable new oak, all lavish and sensual. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, and fleshy to the point where it masks the backbone underneath. It feels hedonistic on the finish…

2016 Bordeaux…It’s All In The Bottle (Jan 2019)

The 2016 Pavie is simply magnificent. Gracious, perfumed and exquisitely beautiful, the 2016 has it all. I can’t remember seeing a Pavie with this much translucent energy and nuance. Black cherry, plum, lavender, spice and menthol all infuse this explosive, young wine with tremendous character. In the glass, the 2016 is vivid, aromatically deep and…
