Vinous Table: The Waterside Inn, Maidenhead, UK (Jul 2022)

We finished with 2003 Gruaud Larose. I have never been a huge fan of this vintage. After almost two decades, it retains its decadent bouquet with black plum, cassis and touches of dark chocolate. Powerful, yet just a little monotone? The palate is expectedly ripe and opulent, dried blood infused black fruit with a voluminous…

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2006)

Good ruby-red. Full-blown aromas of black fruits, coffee liqueur, mint and roasted meat. Quite powerful in the mouth without coming across as sweet; shows distinctly southern notes of garrigue and scorched earth. Less silky than I expected; in fact, this seems to be closing down today. The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2004)

(a 73/27 blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot) Bright ruby-red. Blackcurrant, blueberry, black cherry, violet, tobacco, fresh herbs and currant leaf on the slightly medicinal, quintessential cabernet nose. Dance the Quickstep: Burgundy 2020 (Dec 2021)

The 2020 Bourgogne Blanc has a pretty bouquet with light apple blossom and citrus scents. The palate is well balanced with a slightly waxy texture, fine acidity, quite saline and penetrating on the finish. Very fine for a regional white.

Dance the Quickstep: Burgundy 2020 (Dec 2021)

The 2020 Bourgogne Chardonnay comes from Meursault and is aged in foudres. It has a light bouquet with light lemon and orange pith aromas. The palate is well balanced with fine depth, a touch of spice that enlivens the finish. Fine. Closure: Diam

Bordeaux 2019: The Southwold Tasting (Feb 2023)

The 2019 Moulin Saint-Georges has a focused, liquorice-tinged bouquet, cedar and tobacco, touches of mint emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a little dry, feeling quite linear and strict towards the finish. Biding its time? It just needs to show a little more flair. I expected more. Tasted blind at the…
