Daniel Thomases on Tuscany (Jul 2000)

Deep blackish-ruby. Focused, penetrating aromas of caramel, chocolate, plum and vanilla. Round and caressing on the palate, sweet and silky; flavors of plum and raspberry. Offers lovely texture and volume on the back half. Very elegant and very long, finishing with classy tannins.

2014 Chianti Classico: Better Late Than Never (Oct 2016)

Tasted next to the 2012 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo, the Flaccianello is richer, deeper and more flamboyant. Super-ripe red stone fruit, smoke, licorice and dark spices meld together in a deep, powerful wine. The 2012 is impressive, but personally I prefer the finesse and freshness of the Sorbo. Ornellaia & Masseto: 1995-2010 From Magnum (Jan 2017)

Silky and inviting, with soft contours and seemingly endless layers of dark red-fleshed fruit, the 2007 is absolutely delicious today.

Focus on the Tuscan Coast (Sep 2010)

(14.5% alcohol) Good, moderately saturated ruby. Sexy aromas of blackberry, plum and chocolatey oak are lifted by an enticing violet note. Sweet, lush and fine-grained, with a peppery blackberry flavor complicated by saline and coffee elements. This very cabernet sauvignon-dominated wine boasts terrific varietal character and finishes broad, sweet and mouthcoating. It’s one of the…
