The 2009 Clarets (Jul 2012)

Vivid deep ruby. Knockout fruity nose offers blackcurrant, strawberry, rosemary, truffle and a stony note. Then very closed in the middle, with cabernet sauvignon-dominated flavors of cassis, cigar box, cedar and minerals. Finishes long and deep, with massive but smooth tannins and a lingering note of violet. This will need plenty of time in the…

2007 Bordeaux : Don’t Hate Me Because I’m Overpriced (Jul 2010)

Full ruby-red. Aromas of cassis, blackberry, licorice and minerals. Juicy and tightly wound but essentially pliant, with smooth black fruit and licorice flavors complicated by leather and fresh herbs. Classically dry and very Pauillac. Finishes with supple but firm tannins.

Passing the Baton: Lynch-Bages 1945-2018 (Jul 2023)

The 2007 Lynch-Bages is well-defined on the nose with blackberry, raspberry coulis, loam and melted tar aromas, quintessentially Pauillac and gaining delineation in the glass. The Top Clarets of 2006 (May 2009)

Bright red-ruby. Musky, moderately ripe aromas of plum, tobacco leaf and herbs. Fruity and supple but a bit simple, combining a candied quality and some green notes in the middle plate. Lacks real depth and finishes with a repeating suggestion of candied fruits.

2011 Bordeaux from the Bottle (Jul 2014)

Good full ruby-red. Perfumed aromas of blackcurrant, fresh herbs and cocoa. Sweet, round and nicely vinous, with good depth to the flavors of chocolatey dark fruits and spicy underbrush. Finishes with fine-grained tannins, firm structure and lingering cocoa and floral notes. Offers plenty of early appeal and better texture than many 2011s.

The Comedown: Bordeaux 2011 Ten-Years-On (Apr 2022)

The 2011 Langoa-Barton has an open nose, well defined, a little lean at first though it gains more fruit intensity with aeration. Quite conservative compared to its peers though. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a little oaky perhaps, decent depth with a touch of black pepper and tobacco. What is missing is just…
