Bordeaux 2020: Saving the Best for Last (Feb 2023)

The 2020 Angludet is packed with dark fruit, chocolate, herbs and sweet French oak. Élevage has softened some of the burlier contours that were present en primeur. This forward, juicy Margaux looks like a near and mid-term proposition.

Thrice Is Nice: Bordeaux 2020 in Bottle (Feb 2023)

The 2020 Château Angludet is the product of a crop that suffered frost damage earlier in the season with a reduced percentage of Merlot. It has a lovely nose, maybe not quite as “brisk” as I described out of barrel, yet harmonious with those appealing black fruit laced with iris flower and violet. The palate…

Vingt-Vingt Vins: Bordeaux 2020 (May 2021)

The 2020 Cissac takes a few minutes to really coalesce in the glass, eventually revealing blackberry, raspberry, freshly tilled loam and tobacco scents. The palate is more expressive, featuring attractive blackberry and cranberry fruit, a crunchy texture and good tension on the…

2020 Bordeaux En Primeur: Almost Back to Normal (Jun 2021)

The 2020 Blason d'Issan is plump, juicy and easy to like. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, new leather, licorice, spice and lavender meld together in this attractive, open-knit second wine from Issan. Blason is built on a core of young-vine Merlot, plus Cabernet Sauvignon, and in 2020 a touch of Petit Verdot for the first time.
