The Comedown: Bordeaux 2011 Ten-Years-On (Apr 2022)

The 2011 Lasombes has more black fruit on the nose than its peers, blackberry, undergrowth and touches of meat juice, a little savory in style. The palate is quite dusty with rustic tannins and fine acidity, but it feels a little dry and woody towards the finish. I cannot see this going anywhere. Tasted blind…

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2006)

Excellent deep red. Very sexy, expressive aromas of plum and milk chocolate. Sweet, lush and ripe, with considerable power and thrust for the vintage. Very 2003 in its slightly roasted character but this boasts very good concentration and finishes with sweet, broad tannins and excellent length. Fleshy and evolved enough to give pleasure now, but…

2001, 2000 and 1999 Bordeaux (May 2002)

Saturated ruby. Ripe, liqueur-like aromas of blackberry, violet and Valrhona chocolate. Fat, supple and ripe, with lovely sweetness and flavor intensity in the middle palate. In a somewhat chunky style, with good size and richness for the year. Finishes with ripe, dusty, tactile tannins and lingering sweet berry flavors.

2007, 2006 and 2005 Bordeaux (May 2008)

Moderately saturated medium ruby. Aromas of black fruits, coffee and mocha, with a whiff of cherry liqueur. Then sweet, round and soft, with noteworthy depth to the black fruit, mineral and licorice flavors. Finishes sweet and long, with ripe, suave tannins and very good breadth. Serious, complex, stylish wine with plenty of shape and energy.

Vintage Seeks Home: Bordeaux 2017 In Bottle (Jan 2020)

The 2017 Langoa-Barton has a wonderful bouquet with blackberry, briary, potpourri and light violet scents that are extremely well integrated with the 60% new oak. Nothing pretentious, nothing extravagant. The palate is medium-bodied with very supple tannin, one of the most pliable Langoa’s that I can recall with plenty of black cherry and cassis fruit…

2017 Bordeaux – Mirror, Mirror on The Wall… (Mar 2020)

The 2017 Langoa Barton is so beautiful, just as it was en primeur. Rich, fleshy and seductive in the glass, the 2017 exudes charm from the very first taste. Succulent red cherry, red plum, mint, tobacco and blood orange all flesh out in this wonderfully inviting, alluring Saint-Julien from the Barton family.
