2020 Bordeaux En Primeur: Almost Back to Normal (Jun 2021)

The 2020 Croix de Labrie is superb. Rich, pliant and wonderfully expressive, it dazzles right out of the gate. Inky red fruit, rose petal, cinnamon, cedar, new leather and mint all build in the glass. Silky and plush, with terrific balance, the 2020 is shaping up to be a real jewel of a wine.

Vingt-Vingt Vins: Bordeaux 2020 (May 2021)

The 2020 Croix de Labrie has an intense bouquet of blueberry, cassis and light violet aromas, showing a little more delineation compared to the 2018 that I recently re-tasted. The palate is medium-bodied with a satin-like texture, very plush but not exotic thanks to the counterbalancing acidity. This is a little spicier than previous vintages…

Bordeaux 2020: Saving the Best for Last (Feb 2023)

The 2020 Croix de Labrie is rich, sumptuous and a real head-turner. Jammy dark fruit, blood orange, mint, cinnamon, sweet oak and mocha are all amplified. Plush, silky tannins wrap it all together beautifully. The 2020 is opulent and flamboyant, but also remains light on its feet, showing impeccable balance and tons of class.

Bordeaux 2020: Saving the Best for Last (Feb 2023)

The 2020 La Mondotte is fabulous. Rich, heady and exotic, the 2020 offers up copious blackberry, blueberry, mocha, licorice, lavender and spice, with more savory and mineral notes that appear over time. Like all of Stephan von Neipperg’s 2020s, La Mondotte marries fruit intensity and structure in brilliant style. As always, La Mondotte is a…

Thrice Is Nice: Bordeaux 2020 in Bottle (Feb 2023)

The 2020 La Mondotte has altered since tasting it from barrel, closing in a little, becoming less sensual and more “serious”. Blackberry intermingles with raspberry coulis, cedar and a very subtle star anis scent with superb delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins. Like the aromatics, it has become more intellectual during…

2020 Bordeaux En Primeur: Almost Back to Normal (Jun 2021)

The 2020 La Mondotte is inky and powerful, but also very much closed in on itself. Inky blue/blackish fruit, spice, lavender, gravel, new leather and coffee all take shape with a bit of air. Like all of Stephan von Neipperg's 2020s, La Mondotte deftly marries textural richness with energy. The result is a deep, potent…
