Kirsch, rose petal, pomegranate, exotic spices and mint are woven together in a fabric of notable class in the 2011 Tignanello. An exotic wine that captures the essence of the year, the 2011 is endowed with magnificent complexity, nuance and class. Tuscany Part 1: Chianti, Vino Nobile and Supertuscans (Sep 2014)

(80% sangiovese, 15% cabernet sauvignon and 5% cabernet franc): Medium red. Slightly reduced aromas of candied raspberry, ripe dark cherry, coffee and underbrush, accented by peppery herbs and spices. Enters the mouth full and ripe, then turns leaner and tougher, with juicy red berry and spice flavors framed by soft acidity. Clearly a warm-vintage wine,…

2008 and 2007 Rhone Valley Wines (Jan 2010)

Ruby-red. Deeper and smokier than the normale, displaying scents of cherry, cassis, licorice and smoked meat. Dense and chewy in texture, with pungent dark fruit compote and violet pastille flavors given grip by dusty tannins. An altogether more serious and formidable wine than the basic bottling, with greater finishing richness and a larger tannic structure….

2008 and 2007 Rhone Valley Wines (Jan 2010)

Saturated red. Subtly complex aromas of red fruits, violet, minerals and smoky spices. Intensely flavored and detailed, with youthful raspberry and cherry flavors complemented by cinnamon and candied flowers. There’s a pinot-like quality to this wine that’s very appealing. Finishes sweet and long, with lingering flavors of tangy redcurrant, bitter chocolate and flowers.

Burgundy With A Bit of Age: 2000-2014 (May 2019)

The 2005 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is surprisingly deep in colour, though fear not, there is no sign of premature oxidation. The nose offers sea spray, walnut and egg shell aromas that are nicely defined and carry a subtle reduction. The palate is tangy on the entry, quite edgy with impressive weight, hints of custard creams…

2006 and 2005 White Burgundies (Sep 2007)

Very ripe, sweet nose combines citrus scents, marzipan and crushed stone. Suave, sweet and utterly mouthfilling, with an essence-of-orange fruit flavor complicated by a note of almond. This has compelling volume and density but the ripe acidity gives it shape and precision. More fruits than flowers today. Still a bit youthfully tight on the very…
