2007, 2006 and 2005 Bordeaux (May 2008)

Good dark red. Subdued but complex nose offers raspberry, currant and smoked meat. Rich, plump and sweet but with a firm acid backbone and solid underlying minerality giving shape to this rather large-scaled and mouthfilling wine. Finishes broad and long, with suave tannins. This should gain in focus with eight to ten years in bottle.

Cellar Favorite: The Fives at Château d’Issan (Mar 2021)

The 2005 Château d’Issan is one that Emmanuel Cruse describes as “the first great wine of the modern era”. It has more Merlot than previous vintages as some plots were replanted. It also displays more fruit intensity on the nose compared to the 2000. Blackberry and briary, wilted rose petals and violets are nicely focused,…

2007, 2006 and 2005 Bordeaux (May 2008)

Good ruby-red. Currant and game on the slightly jammy nose. Sweet, rich and suave, with good intensity to the game, jammy fruit and nutty oak flavors. In a soft style, finishing with substantial ripe tannins.

Vinous Table: La Trompette, London, UK (Aug 2018)

The palate is medium-bodied and actually reminded…

Vertical Tasting of Domaine de Chevalier Rouge (Apr 2013)

(a blend of 65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot and 5% cabernet franc; 12.2% alcohol): Medium-deep red. Captivating, intense aromas of red cherry and red berries complicated by cinnamon and clove. Rich, dense and suave, with fleshy, mouthcoating flavors of red cherry, redcurrant and aromatic wood spices. Finishes very long and sweet, with pure spice notes…

2007 Bordeaux : Don’t Hate Me Because I’m Overpriced (Jul 2010)

Bright, medium red-ruby. Cherry, mocha, mint and nutty oak on the nose, with hints of leather, pepper and herbs. A pliant midweight, with modest complexity but good life to its dark berry, mint and herb flavors. Just a bit dry and medicinal on the end. I’d drink this lively wine over the next few years.
