The 2021 Langoa Barton is an attractive, mid-weight Saint-Julien that should drink nicely with minimal cellaring. Red fruit, cedar, spice, tobacco and rose petal lend lovely vibrancy throughout. Enticingly Fallible: Bordeaux 2021 En Primeur (May 2022)

The 2021 Langoa Barton was picked 27 September until 7 October, matured in 60% new oak. Analysis shows 13.03% alcohol. It has a well-defined bouquet with expressive Merlot this year. Hints of blood orange/orange sorbet percolate through the red fruit. It has a skip in its step. The palate is medium-bodied with a taut and…

2016 Bordeaux…It’s All In The Bottle (Jan 2019)

The 2016 Lagrange (Saint-Julien) is super-expressive today. Soft and supple, the 2016 is quite open, even in the early going. Sweet tobacco, menthol, dried herbs and licorice appear with time in the glass, adding lovely shades of nuance. All the elements fall into place effortlessly. Lagrange is not especially complex, but it is absolutely delicious…

Fortunately, it retains very good precision and delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Fresh in the mouth, leading to a minerally finish; a pinch…

2019 Bordeaux from Bottle: The Two Towers (Feb 2022)

A deep, fleshy Saint-Julien, the 2019 Lagrange builds beautifully with time in the glass. Sweet red/purplish berry fruit, rose petal, sage, mint, lavender and cinnamon are finely delineated, and yet this mid-weight Saint-Julien impresses with its super finessed personality. The 2019 is so inviting. It is an especially fine Lagrange. Tasted two times.

Bordeaux 2019: The Southwold Tasting (Feb 2023)

The 2019 Lagrange has an open-knit, classic Saint-Julien nose with black fruit, chimney soot, tobacco and a light sprinkling of white pepper. There is a little more earthiness here. The palate is understated and fleshy, gentle grip, more approachable than its peers, pure but without the same grip and backbone on the finish. Very seductive….
