The 2013 Red Burgundies: Fascinating and Challenging (Mar 2016)

Good full red. High-toned aromas of red raspberry and peppery spices. Juicy, spicy and precise, boasting a tight core of purple fruits and minerals and noteworthy inner-mouth tension. This classy village wine finishes with a cool minty nuance.

2011 Red Burgundies (Mar 2014)

Medium red. Spicy redcurrant and pomegranate complicated by smoke and earth on the nose. Supple, juicy, spicy and quite dry, with moderate depth and a lightly herbaceous quality to the bitter cherry fruit. Finishes with good length and a touch of sweetness but the dusty tannins show a slightly dry, medicinal edge. Not special.

2014 Red Burgundies: Delicious Terroir-Driven Midweights (Mar 2017)

Medium red. Aromas of redcurrant, iron, coffee and spices. Supple, spicy wine with excellent definition and an impression of piquant acidity to its redcurrant, raspberry and mineral flavors. A captivating saline quality draws out the finish. There are still plenty of dusty tannins to be absorbed but they’re neither dry nor green. Lacks only the…

Dom Pérignon: A Rosé Retrospective: 1962-2004 (May 2015)

The 1990 Dom Pérignon Rosé (magnum) is powerful and explosive in style, with superb overall intensity. In this flight, the 1990 comes across as a more polished version of the 1993. Just beginning to enter its tertiary phase, the 1990 is in a great place to deliver maximum pleasure. Autumn leaves, crushed flowers mint and…

Focus on Champagne (Nov 2001)

Pale orange-bronze color. Pinot-like aromas of blood orange, game, smoke and earth, along with hints of orange marmalade and peach; the nose of this wine always reminds me of Nuits-Saint-Georges or Vosne-Romanee. Very intensely flavored, ripe and tactile, but without an ounce of excess weight. Compelling flavors of wild red fruits, spices and earth; very…

1995 and 1994 Bordeaux (May 1996)

Very good bright red-ruby color. Sappy, very floral nose hints at toasty oak. Sweet, supple. smooth and oaks in the mouth. A very consistent though fairly tannic wine without the grip or structure of the ’95. In fact, tasted after the ’95, this seemed much oakier and even a bit monolithic.
