2011 Red Burgundies (Mar 2014)

Bright medium red. Briary crushed raspberry, white pepper and peony on the nose, accented by a piquant note of blood orange. Juicy, precise and penetrating, with lovely cut to the red fruit and spice flavors. Little greenness or earthiness showing. Finishes spicy, brisk, firm and very long. A great showing today; I might have picked…

2016 Barolo: Right Place, Right Time (Feb 2020)

The 2016 Barolo Le Vigne is brilliant and explosive in the glass, with tons of brightness, energy and tension. Classically austere, the 2016 is going to take a few years to be at its best, and yet the wine is so arrestingly beautiful today. A mix of freshly cut and dried flowers, mint and pine…

2014 Red Burgundies: Delicious Terroir-Driven Midweights (Mar 2017)

Bright medium red. Dark cherry, raspberry and flowers on the nose, plus a whiff of earth. Much tighter in the mouth than the Chambolle villages but already wonderfully suave and perfumed, showing a dusty, tactile quality and a lovely balance of sweet and saline elements. The dark raspberry and menthol flavors carry impressively on the…

2016 Bordeaux…It’s All In The Bottle (Jan 2019)

The 2016 Pauillac de Château Latour is just as delicious as it was from barrel. Pliant, silky and open-knit, the Pauillac is absolutely striking. Bright floral notes lift the red and purplish berry fruit in a mid-weight, classy wine endowed with tremendous polish. There is so much to like and admire in this beautifully perfumed,…

The DBs: Bordeaux 2016 In Bottle (Jan 2019)

The 2016 Pauillac de Château Latour has developed well since I tasted it from barrel. It offers pure blackberry and bilberry fruit scented with a hint of pencil shavings. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and silky-smooth texture. Faint touches of vanilla infuse the black fruit, and graphite lingers on the aftertaste. Utterly delightful.

Cellar Favorite: Château Latour: 2021 New Releases (Mar 2021)

The 2016 Pauillac de Latour, which comes from parcels known as ‘Saint Anne’ in the southwest sector of the appellation augmented by young vines from Enclos, was picked from 22 September to 19 October. As befitting a ripe vintage such as this, it has an intense and outgoing bouquet with a surfeit of fruit: blackberry…
