What Nectar!! Suduiraut 1899-2015 (March 2019)

The 2008 Suduiraut is a vintage that I have not met for several years. It might pale against the 2009 however; it offers attractive scents of dried honey, mandarin, beeswax and chamomile. It does not quite possess the harmony of other vintages. The palate is very well balanced with a fine line of acidity, very…

Vertical Tasting of Chateau Lynch-Bages (Jan 2012)

71% cabernet sauvignon, 16% merlot, 11% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot; 5.5 g/l total acidity; 13.3% alcohol): Deep ruby-red. Knockout aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, mocha and cedar complicated by scorched earth and tobacco. Big, ripe and dense, with flavors similar to the aromas and a seamless, rich texture. Though powerful and rich, with a…

Fairest of Them All: Cos d’Estournel 1928 – 2015 (Oct 2018)

The 1995 Cos d’Estournel was matured in 100% new oak and according to the estate was intentionally picked at a higher ripeness level than previous years. It is definitely showing more maturity than the 1996 Cos d’Estournel with more bricking evident on the rim. Similarly the nose does not convey the same vigor and fruité…

1997, 1996 and 1995 Bordeaux (May 1998)

Red-ruby color, not quite as saturated as the ’96. More roasted and less minerally than the ’96: notes of black fruit, game, and toasty oak. Tightly wrapped and rather taut today, but offers terrific concentration and length. Today the wine tannins are very visible, and perhaps not quite as sweet as those of the ’96,…

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2003)

Good full red-ruby. Rich, mellow aromas of currant, plum, mocha and oak. Dense, seamless and deep, with burnished plum and tobacco flavors enlivened by very good vinosity. Lush, suave wine, finishing with sneaky length.

2007, 2006 and 2005 Bordeaux (May 2008)

Bright red-ruby. Sexy aromas of cherry and flowers. Primary and nicely perfumed in the mouth, with a grapey quality to the cherry and raspberry fruit flavors. But ultimately rather light and slightly green-edged, with modest mid-palate stuffing to support its fairly dry tannins.
