The 2008 Clarets (Jul 2011)

Full ruby-red. Deep smoky oak, espresso and exotic spices on the nose. Concentrated, chewy and saline, with the exotic spice and mocha notes carrying through in the mouth. Lively acidity gives this wine an attractively juicy quality. Finishes very long, with substantial dusty tannins.

Bordeaux ’08: Far Better Than Expected (May 2009)

(80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc) If this wine were a tapestry, you couldn’t stop yourself from running your fingers through it. Clos L’Eglise can count on one of Pomerol’s oldest parcels of cabernet franc (45 years old), and its merlot isn’t young either at 35 years of age.

2008 Bordeaux: A Day In A Life (Feb 2018)

The 2008 Clos l’Eglise has a very pure, floral bouquet that is actually not dissimilar to the 2008 Barde-Haut, but shows more finesse and composure, perhaps a little more “confit” in style. The flagship 2004 Brut Sir Winston Churchill is creamy, ample and highly expressive, but it is also a bit more forward than I expected for the vintage. Apricot jam, honey, spice, smoke, brioche and lovely hints of toastiness all add to the wine’s considerable appeal, while there is no shortage of density or volume. All…

The 2008 Clarets (Jul 2011)

Deep ruby. Sexy floral lift to the aromas of red fruits, iron, mocha and flowers. Concentrated and ripe yet silky on the attack, then strikingly deep in the middle, with lovely energy to the flavors of blueberry, cassis and graphite. This very rich, suave wine displays a fleshy mouthfeel and finishes very long and smoothly…

Bordeaux ’08: Far Better Than Expected (May 2009)

(50% cabernet sauvignon, 41% merlot and 9% cabernet franc) Deep ruby, darker than La Mission. The closed nose is classic Bordeaux, with ripe cassis and graphite aromas nicely lifted by violet and mineral, and showing an obvious presence of high-quality cabernet franc. Rich and opulent on the palate, with loads of ripe black fruits framed…
