Bordeaux 2010: All That Glitters… (May 2011)

Opaque ruby. Knockout aromas of raspberry, rose petal and minerals. Wonderfully sweet and bright on entry, then more savory in the middle, with very good lift and precision to its raspberry, blackcurrant, floral and chocolate flavors. Boasts outstanding subtle depth and finishes long and perfumed, with mounting ripe tannins.

The 2010 Clarets: A Modern Classic (Jul 2013)

Full red-ruby. Rich aromas of plum, raspberry, mocha and chocolate are energized by minerals and peppery spices. A saline, suave, youthfully restrained midweight, with terrific floral cabernet franc lift contributing to the impression of class and focus. Sweetness is leavened by a savory quality and hints of tobacco and underbrush. Tannins are suave but this…

The Bordeaux Soundtrack: Icons at Legacy Records (May 2024)

The 2010 La Conseillante has been spellbinding since I first tasted it from barrel. It has an intense nose with black plum, cedar and graphite. It is vibrant and compelling with scents of camphor intertwined. Wonderful delineation; there are layers of aromatic complexity. The palate is beautifully knit with a touch of black pepper and…

Champagne: The 2018 Summer Preview (Jul 2018)

The 2009 Dom Pérignon is open, seductive and radiant, as it has always been. Soft curves, mid-weight structure and tons of plain allure make the 2009 impossible to resist in its youth. This bottle, the best I have tasted so far, offers a distinc citrus and floral-driven profile that adds a good deal of brightness….

2008 Red Burgundies (Mar 2011)

Deep red-ruby, the darkest of these 2008s. Complex aromas of black fruits, licorice, caraway seed, game and smoke. Big, sweet and rich; plush and deep without coming across as heavy. Lovely inner-mouth aromatic perfume to the flavors of black fruits and spices. A broad, silky, savory wine that really spreads out to saturate the palate…

2009 Red Burgundies (Mar 2012)

Very pale cherry-red. High-toned, perfumed aromas of redcurrant, strawberry, raspberry, rose petal, marzipan and orange zest. Lush on entry, then silky and fine-grained in the middle, with sweet raspberry and redcurrant flavors dominating. A tad harsh on the finish today, with some edgy acidity that’s not yet in harmony with the wine’s tannins.
