2010 and 2009 White Burgundies (Sep 2011)

Pale, green-tinged yellow. Peach, flowers and hazelnut on classic Puligny nose. Then sweet and fruity in the mouth, with very ripe stone fruit flavors complicated by hints of honey and menthol. The dusty, slightly aggressive finish displays excellent density and an intriguing flinty character. Boasts impressive volume for village wine.

Tenuta di Trinoro: Tenuta di Trinoro 1997-2005 (Apr 2007)

The 1999 Tenuta di Trinoro (70% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot) presents a distinctly over-ripe, almost raisinated personality, along with notes of chocolate and sweet toasted oak on a massively concentrated frame, with outstanding length and a lingering touch of sweetness on the finish. It shows excellent balance but should…

2007, 2006 and 2005 Bordeaux (May 2008)

Full ruby-red. Captivating aromas of black raspberry, smoked meat, mocha and licorice. Wonderfully sweet, dense and fat but with excellent vinosity and inner-mouth perfume to the flavors of berries, mocha and licorice. A compellingly tactile vintage for Monbousquet, with the substantial but sweet tannins buffered by the wine’s chewy mid-palate material. This was aged in…

A Tuscan Icon – Petrolo Galatrona: 1998-2012 (Sep 2016)

Ink-tinged ruby. Spice-accented aromas complement cassis, olive tapenade and violet pastille on the evolved, open-knit nose. Full and broad on the palate, offering suave dark berry liqueur flavors and an aromatic, minty cocoa nuance that builds with aeration. Finishes with lively acidity extending the flavors at the back, which features a very strong note of…

Tuscany 2009 and 2010: A World of Opposites (Jun 2012)

The 2009 Galatrona is a beautifully centered wine. It shows terrific energy, freshness and vibrancy from start to finish. Cassis, blackberries, mint, spices and new leather are all woven together nicely in the 2009. Firm yet well-integrated tannins support the finish. Although quite overt today, the 2009 appears to have the structure to age well…

Bordeaux 2012: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (May 2013)

(52% cabernet sauvignon, 38% merlot, 6% petit verdot and 4% cabernet franc; a 34% selection): Dark ruby-red. Cassis, dark plum, violet, cocoa and sweet herbs on the refined nose. Then bright and fresh in the mouth, with blackberry and blueberry flavors nicely framed by smooth tannins and lively acidity. Finishes long and suave, with a…
