Bordeaux 2009: The Best Ever? (May 2010)

Purple ruby. Red cherry, violet, cedar and minerals on the expressive nose. Juicy on entry, then densely packed and vibrant in the middle, with a fine-grained texture to its red fruit and floral flavors. This suave, very persistent wine needs more time in barrel to put on weight and gain in complexity. Its polished but…

A Test Of Greatness: 2009 Bordeaux Ten Years On (March 2019)

The 2009 Haut Bages Libéral feels disjointed on the nose with quite punchy graphite aromas coming through, though it needs more cohesion. The palate is medium-bodied with a chewy entry, more red fruit than black, let down by a rather monotone finish. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting.

The 2009 Clarets (Jul 2012)

Bright ruby-red. Aromas of cassis, licorice, bitter chocolate and spicy oak. Sweet, rich and vinous, with harmonious acidity giving shape and grip to the fine-grained flavors of dark berries, cedar, smoke and leather. Good structure and energy here. This firmly built wine spreads out nicely on the lingering aftertaste. A big success for this property.

2005 Bordeaux: Here and Now (Apr 2021)

The 2005 Giscours captures all the natural radiance of the year in its stylish, racy personality. Sweet tannins wrap around a core of sweet red berry fruit, kirsch, rose petal, mint, spice and blood orange. Soft, curvy and sensual, Giscours is a winner in 2005. It doesn’t quite offer the grandeur of the very finest…

Vertical Tasting of Chateau Giscours (Jan 2012)

(62% cabernet sauvignon and 38% merlot; 30.6 g/l dry extract; 13.5% alcohol): Dark ruby with purple tinges. Floral aromas of red berries, minerals, licorice and marzipan. At once dense and suave, with clean, fresh herbal and peppery nuances complicating red berry, chocolate, mineral and cedar flavors and contributing to the wine’s impression of inner-mouth perfume….

2007, 2006 and 2005 Bordeaux (May 2008)

Good ruby-red. Lovely lift to the aromas of black fruits, licorice and minerals. Pure, intense and sweet, offering an enticing combination of black fruit, mineral and dark chocolate flavors. Finishes long and sweet, with plenty of tannic structure and a lingering note of bitter chocolate. A juicy, serious wine with some power. This has turned…
