Focus on Champagne (Nov 2002)

Wonderfully subtle, complex aromas of white flowers, acacia honey, minerals, nuts and mushroom, with musky and leesy nuances. Oily, rich and smoky but with terrific verve and lift. Quite substantial and chewy for a young D.P. but not at all heavy. Yellow plum and strong soil tones in the middle and on the palate-staining finish….

Bruce’s Birthday Bash 2010 (Jul 2010)

A bevy of Dom Pérignons followed. The more I taste DP the more I am convinced that the most consistently reliable bottlings are impeccably well-stored original releases, rather than the far pricier Œnothèque series. The 1995 Dom Pérignon was subtle yet expressive, with an attractive smokiness on the finish.

2008 Red Burgundies (Mar 2011)

Medium red. Complex, scented nose combines cherry, raspberry, dried flowers, spearmint and underbrush, along with a sexy element of smoky oak. The sweetest of these 2008s to this point and downright plump for 2008. A wonderfully chewy, tactile, soil-driven wine with sharp definition to its flavors of red fruits, minerals, spices and earth. The 2009 Red Burgundies (May 2011)

The 2008 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St. Jacques is an unusually warm, pliant 2008. The use of 80% new barrels here undoubtedly contributes to the wine’s open, generous expression of fruit. The Clos St. Jacques is a beautiful wine, even at this early stage.

Burgundy With A Bit of Age: 2000-2014 (May 2019)

The 2008 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St.-Jacques 1er Cru is an absolute joy to behold and in terms of drinking now a sheer pleasure, surpasses both the 1996 and 2005 tasted the previous day. It bursts with pixelated red cherry and strawberry fruit on the nose, laced with minerals and light citrus scents. The palate is powerful…

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2004)

Good full ruby. High-pitched aromas of blackberry, mint and minerals. Juicy but quite tightly wound today; much more austere than the comparatively pliant Clerc-Milon-not to mention firmer and less fleshy than it appeared from barrel a year ago. Juicy acidity contributes to the impression of structure. Unlike most 2001s, this seems already to have gone…
