Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Rosé 1985-2006 (Jul 2014)

The 2005 Comtes de Champagne Rosé is a wine of contrasts. At first rich and vinous on the palate, the 2005 turns more delicate with time in the glass as its silkier and floral qualities become more evident. Sweet red berry and spice notes linger on the delicate finish.

Vinous Table: Kitchen W8, London, UK (Mar 2023)

We started with a pre-prandial 2005 Rosé Comtes de Champagne from Taittinger. This was ridiculously fine. Quite deep and almost Burgundian on the nose, it is vibrant and beautifully defined, with red cherries, bergamot and crushed stones in the background. Likewise, the palate has more weight and depth than other Rosés, with dark cherries and…

2014 Bordeaux: A September Surprise (Feb 2017)

The 2014 Canon is delicate, polished and restrained, with striking aromatic presence, silky tannins and exceptional length, all of which reinforce an impression of total finesse. Not an obvious wine, the 2014 will need time to fully come together and perhaps flesh out a little more. Even so, it is quite pretty and expressive in…

Bordeaux 2014: The Southwold Tasting (Mar 2018)

The 2014 Canon has an intense bouquet with blackberry, raspberry, briary and light tobacco scents, gradually gaining more precision with aeration yet remaining classic in style. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, harmonious and poised with a structured yet precise finish that is pure class. Perhaps you might argue…

Test of Endurance: Bordeaux 2014 Ten Years On (Mar 2024)

The 2014 Canon has a lovely bouquet with beautifully defined black fruit, melted tar, graphite and subtle touches of blood orange. This is very harmonious and seamless. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and a keen line of acidity. It is very harmonious, with just a slightly baked and savory finish. Maybe it lacks…

Napa Valley’s Extraordinary 2016 Cabernets (Dec 2018)

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon (Diamond Mountain) is fabulous. Dark, powerful and explosive, the 2016 is endowed with terrific energy to play off its strong mineral and savory signatures. Crushed rocks, gravel, grilled herbs, smoke, cured meats and lavender are finely drawn in this imposing, impeccably balanced, Diamond Mountain Cabernet. This is a remarkably vivid, poised…
