2011 Bordeaux from the Bottle (Jul 2014)

Bright, deep ruby. Expressive aromas of blackcurrant, tobacco, licorice and spices are complicated by a note of torrefaction. Tight, juicy and intense, showing a floral blackcurrant flavor but little in the way of flesh today. Finishes pure and long. This minerally, floral wine is in need of at least four or five years of bottle…

The 2010 Clarets: A Modern Classic (Jul 2013)

Bright ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of raspberry syrup, kirsch, dried flowers and cedary, nutty oak. Large-scaled, plush and deep, conveying superb velvety richness of texture without obvious heaviness. This opulent wine finishes with big, sweet tannins, a note of chocolate, and lively notes of mint and herbs. Fat, sexy and flamboyant.

Bordeaux 2010: All That Glitters… (May 2011)

(a blend of 50% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot and 10% petit verdot; 13.8% alcohol) Bright dark red. Knockout nose combines raspberry, violet, spicy oak, minerals and dried herbs. Wonderfully tangy and delineated, with excellent thrust and concentration to its blackberry and sweet spice flavors. Still, this comes across as a bit youthfully closed and hiding…

Squares & Circles: Bordeaux ‘10 At Ten (Apr 2020)

The 2010 La Lagune has a vigorous bouquet with blackberry, briary and tobacco aromas, quite feisty compared to its peers, then settling down and manifesting more red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. This builds nicely towards a cohesive, silky smooth finish with a pinch of white…

Mother & Child: La Lagune 1962 – 2015 (Apr 2018)

The 2007 La Lagune was surprisingly showing a touch of reduction on the nose. Underneath that lies a mixture of red and black fruit, sage and melted tar; with aeration it begins to lose that reduction and show decent delineation. The palate is medium-bodied and shows better balance and finer tannin than the 2006. This…

2007 Bordeaux : Don’t Hate Me Because I’m Overpriced (Jul 2010)

Red-ruby. Deep aromas and flavors of currant, cherry, blackberry, minerals, leather, tobacco and roasted nuts. A juicy, moderately intense midweight with good inner-mouth perfume and definition. Firm acids and dusty tannins give spine to this persistent wine, which showed a note of burning tobacco as it opened in the glass.
