A Birthday Dinner at Momofuku Ko, New York (May 2016)

Bollinger’s 1982 R.D., disgorged in 1995, makes for a great palate cleanser. Mature, but with enough freshness to drink well for at least another handful of years, the 1982 is a fabulous example of just how well Champagne can age with proper storage. Hints of almond, chamomile, mint, dried pear and baked apple leave a…

1998, 1997 and 1996 Bordeaux (May 1999)

Good ruby-red. Spicy, slightly roasted red berry, tobacco and black olive aromas. Supple, vinous and nicely delineated; shapely and approachable for this wine. Good ripe finish.

1999 and 1998 Red Burgundies (Mar 2001)

Good ruby-red. Musky, slightly reduced aromas of black raspberry, leather and game. Supple, spicy and rather easygoing, with moderate depth of flavor and length. Finishes with rather soft tannins. Should offer early appeal.

1999 and 1998 Red Burgundies (Mar 2001)

Good deep red. Slightly inky but expressive aromas of red fruits, smoke and minerals. Fat and sweet, with good but not outstanding concentration and intensity. Flavor of slightly tart red fruits (cranberry, pomegranate). Finishes with tongue-dusting tannins.

Vivid and nuanced, the Petit Mouton is everything a second wine should be. A host of inky dark fruit, lavender and savory notes get an extra kick of freshness from the high acidity…

Bordeaux 2014: The Southwold Tasting (Mar 2018)

The 2014 Le Petit Mouton has a deep and powerful bouquet with blackberry, raspberry preserve, cedar and sandalwood, pencil shavings (the latter becoming more and more evident with time in the glass.) The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, plenty of cedar and tar-infused black fruit offset by a fine thread of acidity. It…
