Servants of the Seasons: Burgundy 2021 (Jan 2023)

The 2021 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has a less complex bouquet than the Chambertin, red plum, mint, quite strong intense aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with red berry fruit, tea leaves, just a slight bitterness on the finish.

Servants of the Seasons: Burgundy 2021 (Jan 2023)

The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru shows some wood on the nose that slightly obscures the terroir profile. The palate is sweet and candied on the entry, with supple tannins. Not the most complex Charmes Chambertin, though it has an attractive plummy finish.

A Vintage with Issues: Burgundy 2021 (Oct 2025)

The 2021 Richebourg Grand Cru far surpassed my and indeed every attendee’s expectations. Admittedly, there is some reduction on the nose, but here it is no problem, as one can easily discern the tightly packed ripe red berry fruit that will burst forth in the future. The palate is beautifully balanced with svelte tannins, lovely…

The 2022 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru, 90% whole clusters that went through malo in June, has an expressive bouquet with redcurrant, black cherries, touches of damp forest floor and black pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and bright black fruit, very well balanced with a crunchy texture. There’s impressive salinity on…

A Vintage with Issues: Burgundy 2021 (Oct 2025)

The 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru offers dark plummy fruit laced with violet. Some reduction is present, and it is difficult to dislodge despite transferring the wine between glasses. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins and dark berry fruit laced with cola. Good density and lightly spiced, it just feels a little made in the…

Servants of the Seasons: Burgundy 2021 (Jan 2023)

The 2021 Echézeaux En Orveau Grand Cru comes from a parcel on the south-facing slope and includes some stem addition. It is fragrant on the nose with hints of white pepper and bay leaf embroidered into the lifted red fruit. Quite complex and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with a fresh, almost citrus-like entry, a…
