2+2=5: Bordeaux 2021 In Bottle (Feb 2024)

The 2021 Laroque has a well-defined, complex bouquet with blackberry, raspberry, loam and tobacco scents, a touch of damp undergrowth emerging with time, The palate is medium-bodied with a sapid entry and fine acidity, slightly powdery in texture with a hint of Japanese nori on the finish. This is well worth seeking out.

2013 Barolo: The Late Releases (Oct 2017)

Another brooding wine, the 2013 Barolo Le Coste is also the most reticent of the three 2013 Barolos I tasted from Grimaldi. Here the impression of tannin and structure is decidedly vertical. Smoke, wild cherries, licorice, menthol and plum are some of the notes that develop as this reticent, inward Barolo gradually starts to open…

Bordeaux 2020 – The Southwold Tasting (Nov 2024)

The 2020 Pape Clément has a comparatively light, rather "aloof" bouquet that demands rigorous coaxing in the glass. This might be going through a dumb phase. The palate is very elegant and harmonious, exerting insistent grip and finely judged acidity with a vivacious, persistent finish. It's wonderful, but it needs time for the aromatics to…

Bordeaux 2020: Saving the Best for Last (Feb 2023)

The 2020 Pape Clément is outrageously beautiful. Dark, virile and imposing, the 2020 is a rare vintage of Pape Clément that is vertical and statuesque in feel. Dark fruit, chocolate, new leather, licorice and cloves infuse the palate with tremendous depth. In a word: magnificent.

2021 Bordeaux: L’Enfant Terrible (Feb 2024)

The 2021 Duhart-Milon is a very pleasant surprise. There’s very little Merlot this year, and that seems to result in a serious, at times somber, Duhart-Milon. Black cherry, gravel, spice, licorice and graphite build beautifully with time in the glass. The 2021 is gorgeous.

2+2=5: Bordeaux 2021 In Bottle (Feb 2024)

The 2021 Duhart-Milon was the second year in the new cellar that Eric Kohler said allowed them to make a stricter selection, and it includes more vin de presse (14%). The 2021 has a typical Duhart nose, with cedar and pencil box aromas percolating through the black fruit. The new oak is neatly integrated. The…
