2007, 2006 and 2005 Bordeaux (May 2008)

($1; 895) Saturated, bright ruby-red. Brooding, liqueur-like aromas of blackberry, cassis, smoked meat, licorice and menthol. Compellingly dense, sweet and concentrated, with silky fruit that saturates the entire palate without any excess weight. A very backward, firmly structured wine that offers an uncanny combination of early sweetness and firm but harmonious acidity. The wine’s dark…

A Woman’s Touch: Lafleur 1985-2022 (Sep 2025)

The 2005 Lafleur has always been a bit of a beast. It is clearly nowhere near its drinking window either on the nose or palate. Blackberry, gravel, wild heather and graphite scents reluctantly emerge on the nose, but it is a little surly compared to the 2008, for example. The palate is huge in terms…

A Woman’s Touch: Lafleur 1985-2022 (Sep 2025)

The 2012 Lafleur continues to show well in bottle. Contrasted directly against the 2011, this has just a notch more brightness and energy with blackberry and light iodine scents, just a touch of black truffle and that hint of lavender that only emerges with time in the glass. The palate is refined and focused with…

2012 Bordeaux: Messages in a Bottle (Jan 2016)

The 2012 Lafleur presents a distinctly red-toned profile to match its silky, open-knit personality. Crushed flowers, sweet red cherry, plum, mint and spices are all nicely layered throughout. Medium in body, the 2012 nevertheless possesses lovely depth and pliancy, both of which suggest it will provide readers with a long window of exceptionally fine drinking….

Bordeaux 2012: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (May 2013)

(54% cabernet franc and 46% merlot). Bright ruby-red. Perfumed aromas of blackcurrant, red berries, violet and vanilla. Enters sweet and creamy, with red and black fruit flavors, but turns austere toward the back, showing slightly tough tannins that will likely need considerable élévage to smooth out. Lovely lingering note of violet on the finish.

New Vintage Champagnes (Nov 2007)

(disgorged December, 2006) Pale straw. Vibrant, exotically perfumed bouquet evokes fresh pear and nectarine, with a wild spicecake quality adding complexity. Cinnamon-accented orchard fruit flavors are strikingly precise and palate-coating. Delivers outstanding concentration and finesse and finishes with superb persistence.
