2001, 2000 and 1999 Bordeaux (May 2002)

Ruby-red. Reserved nose hints at bitter cherry, Cuban tobacco and game. Rather powerfully structured but a bit dry-edged, showing more game and tobacco than primary fruit and lacking verve. Finishes a bit dry. As with the 2001, this sample may not be fresh.

Cleaning Out the Cupboard: Bordeaux 1943-2020 (Jan 2023)

The 2000 La Fleur-Pétrus is a vintage I have not tasted for a while. This has an intense, enveloping bouquet that wraps its arms around your senses and gives it a gentle cuddle. The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2003)

Bright ruby-red. Superripe, highly perfumed aromas of raspberry, tobacco, minerals and spices. Sweet, lush and deep, with liqueur-like red fruits complicated by notes of tobacco leaf and fresh herbs. Very silky, voluminous Pomerol with real sweetness and inner-mouth perfume. A thoroughly seductive vintage for this chateau.

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2006)

Bright, deep ruby-red. Sweet, enticing aromas of redcurrant, plum, coffee and meat. This offers lovely sweetness in the mouth, with a terrific core of fruit and a captivating sugar/acid balance. Unusually dense for this second wine. Finishes long and firmly tannic, with plenty of lingering flavor. The best yet for this label.

2006 and 2005 Red Burgundies (Mar 2008)

Good full red. Ripe aromas of cherry, minerals and rose petal. Sweet and juicy, with a bit less density than the Charmois. Bright red fruit and mineral flavors show a medicinal austerity on the back end, suggesting that this firmly tannic, solid wine will reward five or six years of aging.

2001 and 2000 Red Burgundies (Mar 2003)

Medium red, with a hint of amber. Low-toned aromas of redcurrant, tobacco, underbrush and earth. Sweet, supple and plump, with good flavor intensity and the fleshiness of the vintage. Finishes with slightly tough, dry-edged tannins.
