Napa Valley Trilogy: 2014, 2015 & 2016 (Dec 2016)

Lokoya’s 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Mountain offers good immediacy, which makes it the most accessible of these 2014s. Medium in body, the 2014 is a bit light in structure and overall intensity. It will be interesting to see if the 2014 gains a bit more volume and body in its aging. Today, it is decidedly…

Buckle Your Seatbelts: 2019 Brunello and 2021 Rosso di Montalcino (Dec 2023)

The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Madonna delle Grazie tempts the imagination with a dark veil of exotic florals and spices that slowly lifts to reveal dried blackberries and cherries enlivened by hints of mint and a dusting of clove. This soothes with its silken textures and ripe red berry fruits as a blend of saline…

Gaja did not bottle any other Barbaresco crus, opting to use the best lots for this bottling. That decision paid off in a 2019 that sizzles with tension. The aromatics alone are…

Champagne – The Season’s New Releases (Nov 2018)

Henriot’s 2008 Brut Millesime is rich, creamy and super-expressive, all of which make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Pastry, apricot, lemon confit, green pear and white flowers all grace this subtle, inviting Champagne from Henriot. The 2008 has enough fruit to drink well now, but also more…

Now, For My Latest Trick: Burgundy 2022 (Jan 2024)

The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle 1er Cru has a light bouquet of orchard fruit, meringue and light almond aromas. The palate is well-balanced, with a clever little reduction on the entry. Fine acidity, quite spicy and poised with a marmalade tang towards the finish. This grows on you.
