2000 and 1999 Rhone Valley Wines (Jan 2002)

Full, deep red. Perfumed, Burgundian aromas of tangy raspberry, flowers and smoke. Highly aromatic in the mouth, with perfectly integrated acids brightening and extending the red fruit and floral flavors. Finishes with lovely length and vibrancy. This will rely as much on its ripe acids as on its fine tannins for development in bottle.

Bright, deep red-ruby. Tangy raspberry aroma, with a hint of game. Richer and sweeter in the mouth, with considerably more flavor intensity. Complicating notes of woodsmoke and brown spices. Fruity, persistent finish, with dusty but more substantial tannins.

2000 and 1999 Rhone Valley Wines (Jan 2002)

Medium ruby-red. Riper on the nose than the Tradition, with hints of dried fruits and chocolate. Offers good volume and texture but only moderate sweetness; the dried fruit note carries through in the mouth. Seems a bit flat without some syrah or mourvedre to perk it up. Finishes with a bit less length and nuance…
