The Best New Wines from Spain, Part 2 (Sep 2007)

Inky ruby. Impressively fresh aromas don’t suggest a hot year: spicy red berries, cherry-vanilla, anise, rose and lavender. Fresh red fruit flavors are brightened by zesty minerality and complicated by suggestions of licorice candy, mocha and floral pastille. A crisp, focused Rioja that finishes with gentle grip and very good length.

2006 and 2005 Rhone Valley Wines (Jan 2008)

Deep ruby. Spicy blackberry and cassis aromas project a wild, alluring quality, with pungent floral and mineral character. Juicy red and dark berry flavors are bright and clear, showing no hard edges or earthiness. Very suave and delicious already.

Santa Barbara Dreamin’… Part One & Part Two (Sep 2018)

The 2016 Pinot Noir Moon is a bit darker in its flavor profile than the other Pinots in the range. Dark red and purplish berry fruit notes fill out the wine’s frame effortlessly. Deceptively medium in body, the 2016 packs a serious punch.

Best New Releases from Australia (Jul 2001)

Bright deep ruby to the rim. Knockout nose combines blackberry, violet, bitter chocolate, orange peel, leather, graphite and exotic spices, plus light vegetal and animal nuances. A wine of great thrust and flavor intensity; black fruit, bitter chocolate and spice flavors dance on the palate. Finishes with terrific grip and persistence, and a late hint…

Henschke’s Hill of Grace – The Garden of Eden (Apr 2023)

The 1988 Shiraz Hill of Grace is an impressive result from an unsettled vintage. It shows considerable underlying power and ripeness with baked cherry, dark licorice, fennel seed and violet aromas. It has a real Claret feel; the powerful fruit is beautifully composed and well-matched to a firm bed of acidity and tannin that drive…

2001 Red Wines from the Rhone Valley (Jan 2004)

Ruby-red. Exotic aromas of plum, woodsmoke, black olive and five-spice powder. Sweet, fat, full and impressively deep, with flavors of raspberry, mocha, mace and nutmeg. A very suave, classy and impeccably balanced Cote-Rotie with superb building length. The thoroughly ripe finish throws off notes of dried herbs and spices.
