2016 & 2015 White Burgundy (Sep 2017)

Musky, very ripe but subdued aromas of apricot, mirabelle, spices and marzipan. Full, ripe and sweet, but with strong balancing orange-juice acidity. A rather powerful but youthfully disjointed village wine with a firm, dry finish.

2014 Red Burgundies: Delicious Terroir-Driven Midweights (Mar 2017)

Moderately saturated medium red. Complex nose melds strawberry, flowers, game and mocha. Deeper than the Morey-Saint-Denis Clos Solon; brisk, salty and concentrated, offering considerable personality and sex appeal. This very sappy village wine shows excellent clarity and length, finishing with harmonious tannins.

The 2011 Côte de Beaune Whites: Grace in Motion (Sep 2013)

The 2011 Meursault Charmes is another absolutely classic Colin-Morey wine. Intensely mineral and tense, the 2011 boasts fabulous focus, not to mention tremendous overall balance. In 2011, Colin-Morey’s Perrieres is quite Charmes-like, while the Charmes has much more of the mineral-drenched intensity and pure power that I generally associate with Perrieres. There is a lot…

2012 and 2011 White Burgundies (Sep 2013)

(from 40-year-old vines in between Lafon’s two parcels, according to Colin): Captivating aromas of pineapple, lemon, tangerine, linden flower, exotic herbs and minerals. A step up in texture from the foregoing samples, with a lemon cream flavor framed by penetrating but harmonious acidity. Very rich, deep wine with the balance to give early pleasure but…

2005 Bordeaux: Here and Now (Apr 2021)

The 2005 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a wine from the château’s less brilliant period. In this tasting, it is dark, heavy and clumsy. All that said, the 2005 has aged relatively well, there is just not much complexity to speak of. Muted, unfocused aromatics and dull fruit are penalizing. It is truly remarkable to…

2007, 2006 and 2005 Bordeaux (May 2008)

Good full red-ruby. Very ripe, musky aromas of black plum, currant, menthol, dark chocolate, mocha and meat; less pristine than the 2006 but rather youthfully subdued today. Then lush and fat but not overly sweet in the mouth, with a nice balance between ripe fruit and harmonious acidity. A full, broad wine that builds slowly…
