Thrice Is Nice: Bordeaux 2020 in Bottle (Feb 2023)

The 2020 Château de Pez has a far superior bouquet than the Deuxième Vin, with blackberry and mulberry, pressed violet and then peony. The palate is medium-bodied with firm and quite saturated tannins. Fine backbone here, fresh and saline with a vibrant finish. Maybe not the most persistent Saint-Estèphe yet there is impressive weight.

A Century of Bordeaux: The Threes (Aug 2023)

The 1983 Ducru-Beaucaillou just precedes their difficult period in the latter half of the decade when they suffered an infection in one of their storage houses. The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is a very successful wine for a vintage fraught with the challenges of the late-season fires and smoke that infiltrated the entire region. Rich red cherry fruit, dried plum, graphite, toasted spices and slight herbal undertones are the signatures. Fine, powdery tannins perk up on the restrained finish. This…

It was carefully aged for up to 16 months in French oak barrels. Garnet in hue. The nose reveals captivating cassis, rose, blackberry, plum and fig aromas harmoniously…

Never a Dull Vintage in the Northern Rhône (Dec 2022)

Saturated ruby. Expansive aromas of ripe blackberry, cherry liqueur, licorice, vanilla and candied violet are energized by exotic spice and mineral flourishes. Broad and fleshy on the palate, offering densely packed, smoke-laced black and blue fruit, mocha, olive paste, exotic spice and floral pastille flavors that show fine detail and mineral lift. The impressively long,…
