Servants of the Seasons: Burgundy 2021 (Jan 2023)

The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Village has a tight and focused bouquet with flint-infused malic fruit, very focused and pure. The palate is taut and fresh, quite malic on the entry with light white peach and spice notes towards the finish. Fine.

The 2019 Napa Valley Cabernets: A Deep Dive (Jan 2022)

Freemark Abbey’s 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is dark, supple and inviting. Black cherry, plum, mocha and licorice give this open-knit Cabernet tons of up-front appeal. Silky tannins wrap around the juicy, inviting finish. The 2018 is attractive, but it is also a bit soft. I would prefer to drink it over the near and…

2015 Bordeaux: Every Bottle Tells a Story… (Feb 2018)

Proprietor Alfred Tesseron and winemaker Jean-Michel Comme produced an absolutely stellar Pontet-Canet in 2015. Sumptuous, racy and totally inviting, the 2015 is all class. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, spice and exotic floral notes build as the 2015 shows off its alluring personality. Even with all of its raciness, the 2015 speaks with authority and power….

The 2015 Pontet Canet has a lovely bouquet with a mixture of red and black fruit, cedar and subtle tobacco scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe tannins, smooth texture and a sheen of classy new oak with a dab of spice that enlivens the finish. The 2015 is primal for being ten years…

Currently in a slightly dumb phase and aromatically compressed on the nose, revealing cool blackberry and cassis aromas with extended aeration, complicated by notes of cola,…

The Top Clarets of 2006 (May 2009)

Deep ruby-red. Deeply pitched aromas of inky cassis, licorice, mocha and smoky, nutty oak. Fairly large-scaled and layered but dominated by its acid/tannin spine in the early going, displaying firm, coolish flavors of black plum, licorice and graphite. The lingering finish features substantial but ripe tannins. Give this at least a few years of cellaring…
