Future Memories: DRC 2022 In Bottle (Feb 2025)

The 2022 Échézeaux Grand Cru was picked on 11 and 12 September at 42.9 hL/ha. This was impressive out of barrel. It soars from the glass with black cherries, raspberry and white-tipped strawberry, the floral element (violets) less prominent compared to its showing from cask. There is just a hint of cumin in the background….

Now, For My Latest Trick: Burgundy 2022 (Jan 2024)

The 2022 Echézeaux Grand Cru has an exquisite bouquet: black cherries, hints of blueberry, violet and iris flower that blossoms in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a touch of dark chocolate on the entry, a fine bead of acidity, quite lush in style yet it retains control from start to finish. Fine mineralité…

2022 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti: The Lightness of Being (Mar 2025)

The 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is a creamy, exotic white. Apricot, lemon confit, slate, white flowers and chamomile lend a good bit of flair. The 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru was picked 8 to 13 September at 52.4 hL/ha. This is the fourth vintage since its debut. The 2022 has a complex bouquet, leaning a little more toward yellow fruit, hints of vanilla pod and melted candlewax. Perhaps there was a soupçon more mineralité in the 2021, which would be…

Now, For My Latest Trick: Burgundy 2022 (Jan 2024)

The 2022 La Tâche Grand Cru is allowed three or four minutes to just settle in the glass. It offers a mélange of red and black fruit, pressed iris flower, and light sea spray scents that remain just off-stage. This, at the moment, is a very nuanced La Tâche. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree…

2022 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti: The Lightness of Being (Mar 2025)

The 2022 La Tâche Grand Cru is quite promising in its aromatics but less welcoming on the palate, where it feels a touch strict today. White pepper, sage, mint, blood orange and star anise are nicely lifted. For now, the 2022 La Tâche is somewhat of an enigma. Perhaps I caught it at a slightly…
