Omne Trium Perfectum: Bordeaux 2019s in Bottle (Feb 2022)

The 2019 Cissac has a nose of bright red berries nicely interwoven with hints of graphite and cedar, all very focused. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh and vibrant, with fine-grained tannins and gentle grip on the graphite-tinged finish. This is a very fine Cissac to enjoy over the next decade.

2019 Bordeaux: A Long, Strange Trip (Jun, 2020)

The 2019 Blason d’Issan is a pretty, fruity second wine to drink over the next decade or so. Crème de cassis, licorice, grilled herbs, lavender and dark spices are front and center. This elegant, mid-weight Margaux is all class.

Omne Trium Perfectum: Bordeaux 2019s in Bottle (Feb 2022)

The 2019 Blason d'Issan, matured in 35% new oak, has opened up a little since I tasted it from barrel, though it does retain a sense of strictness. Bell-pepper-infused black fruit scents feature on the earthy nose. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy, Merlot-driven red fruit, gentle and caressing. Not a complex second wine, but…

Power and Energy: The 2018 and 2017 Northern Rhônes (Apr 2020)

Opaque ruby. Highly aromatic aromas of ripe black and blue fruits, incense, exotic spices, violet and a hint of olive. Densely packed and lively on the palate, offering intense dark berry liqueur, floral pastille and salty olive flavors, a hint of smoky minerality and building spiciness. Finishes chewy, focused and extremely long, with mounting tannins…

The Future’s Definitely Not What It Was: Bordeaux 2018 (Mar 2021)

The 2018 Séraphine has developed more precision since I tasted it from barrel, offering well-defined scents of blackberry, raspberry and bilberry; an attractive oyster shell note emerges after 20–30 minutes of aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, good depth and cohesion, and fine salinity toward the finish. I appreciate the energy of this…

Bordeaux 2018: Not Back in Black (Mar 2021)

The 2018 Marquis de Terme is a promising wine. The aromatics are quite expressive while the palate is pliant and racy. At the same time, those components feel like they each live in their own little words, which leaves the wine feeling disjointed. Hopefully time in bottle will help things come together.
