2011 and 2010 Southern Rhone Wines (Jan 2013)

Opaque purple. Explosive aromas of candied black and blue fruits, incense and lavender, with suave mocha and Indian spice nuances adding complexity. Lush and expansive but very lively, offering intense black raspberry and boysenberry flavors and a strong floral pastille quality. 2006 Brunello di Montalcino (Jul 2011)

This rather silky wine is plush and mouthfilling, even if it doesn’t convey the definition of the best examples. Finishes with a suggestion of oak.

2006 Brunello: The Emperor’s New Clothes or Historic Vintage? (May 2011)

The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino graces the palate with exquisite layers of crushed flowers, tobacco, grilled herbs, mint and wild cherries. There is a deep soulfulness to this wine that is hard to fully capture with words. Despite its richness and super-ripe, racy fruit, the Brunello preserves quite a bit of freshness and elegance. Sweet…
