2010 Barolo: Flying High Again (Jan 2014)

The 2010 Barolo Gavarini Vigna Chiniera is a wine of breathtaking purity and finesse. The year that comes to mind is 2008, but the 2010 has a more classic sense of structure, tannic cut and intensity. Bright red berries, crushed rocks, mint and dried flowers are some of the many notes that linger in the…

Barolo and Barbaresco (Nov 2013)

Good bright red. Deep, ineffable aromas and flavors of red cherry, redcurrant, rose petal, menthol and flinty minerality. Rich, concentrated and fine-grained, with captivating early perfume giving the wine outstanding inner-mouth tension. Finishes with substantial noble, mouthcoating tannins and superb length. Grasso compared this wine to the 1989.

The 2009 Red Burgundies (May 2011)

The 2008 La Tâche is another huge, powerful wine. Deep layers of perfumed fruit flow fomr this gorgeous wine. Mint, crushed flowers, orange peerl and spcies are just some of the notes that emerge from the wonderfully textured fruit. Darker hints of earthiness, tar and minerals frame the sweeping, eternal finish. This is simply dazzling.

2008 Red Burgundies (Mar 2011)

Good medium-deep red. Knockout high-pitched nose shows great lift to its aromas of raspberry, rose petal and Oriental spices. Silky-sweet, supple and highly concentrated but very tightly coiled today. Saturates the entire palate without exerting any impression of weight. Wonderfully suave, plush wine with superb energy on the very long, vibrating finish.

1998, 1997 and 1996 Bordeaux (May 1999)

Full ruby color. Blueberry, roasted nuts, mint and a hint of game on the nose. Fat, sweet and multilayered; rich, ripe and deep. Offers a generous mouthfeel for a young ’96 from the Medoc. Substantial ripe tannins spread out over the palate. Very long, ripe aftertaste.

1998, 1997 and 1996 Bordeaux (May 1999)

Ruby-red. Floral, cedary aromas of blackcurrant and licorice. Concentrated but quite pliant in the middle palate. Ripe tannins nicely supported by fruit extract.
