Elegance and Power: The 2010 White Burgundies (Aug 2012)

A good example of the awkwardness of some of the Sauzet 2010s is found in the 2010 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Canet is very tight, closed down. Even within the context of the year, the Champ Canet is unusually unexpressive and compact. This is one the more heavily reduced and unyielding wines in the lineup.

2011 and 2010 White Burgundies (Sep 2012)

Pale bright yellow. Complex nose melds mirabelle, yellow peach, citrus fruits and hazelnut. Rich, seamless and concentrated, conveying a strong floral character and an impression of strong extract. The 2009 White Burgundies (Aug 2011)

2005 and 2004 Chablis (Nov 2006)

Slightly reduced but complex nose hints at citrus peel, white fruits, minerals, iodine and lichee. Juicy and very intense, with terrific thrust to the white peach and mineral flavors. This is quite expansive despite the fact that it was bottled just a week prior to my visit. Finishes bracing and very long, with superb delicacy….

2008 and 2007 White Burgundies (Sep 2009)

Good lemony lift to the aromas of minerals and vanillin oak. Dense, rich and sweet, with a classic creamy texture leavened by a sappy quality that extends the wine’s finish. The longest of these 2007s to this point.
