Napa Valley Trilogy: 2014, 2015 & 2016 (Dec 2016)

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Rubicon emerges from the back part of the property, which lies on the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains. Here the wines are dense, powerful and structured. That is exactly what comes through in the 2013. Layers of dark fruit built into a crescendo of aromas, flavors and textures laced with mocha,…

2017 & 2018 Napa Valley In Depth (Jan 2020)

The 2017 Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon is stunning. Seamless on the palate, with remarkable depth and richness, the 2017 has so much to offer. Black cherry jam, blackberry, chocolate, licorice, spice and menthol build in a rich, sumptuous Cabernet Sauvignon that hits all the right notes. Best of all, the 2017 will drink well with only…

Focus on California’s North Coast (May 2009)

Saturated deep ruby. Crushed black fruits and minerals on the lively nose. The densest and richest of these 2006s, with a compelling sweetness to its extremely primary dark fruit and bitter chocolate flavors. Not yet complex but has terrific stuffing to support its big, chewy, broad tannins. Lay this one down.

Focus on California’s North Coast (May 2008)

Good medium ruby. High-pitched aromas and flavors of black cherry, licorice and chocolate mint. Generous and tactile, with noteworthy energy and minerality and a restrained sweetness in the middle palate. This is uncommonly suave for a wine from mountain fruit. Finishes broad and long, with substantial fine, well-integrated tannins and excellent life and lift.

Spain’s Northern Regions Keep It Cool (Mar 2019)

Lurid violet color. Intensely perfumed aromas of red berry liqueur, cherry pit, incense, exotic spices and pot-pourri, along with a smoky mineral flourish that builds in the glass. Densely packed and alluringly sweet, showing excellent depth and bright mineral thrust to its sappy red/blue fruit, spicecake and lavender pastille flavors. Gains power with air while…

2015 Barolo – The Late Releases (Nov 2019)

The 2015 Barolo Serra is plush and forward, with terrific density and quite a bit of immediacy. A rush of sweet red cherry, blood orange, spice, menthol, star anise and cinnamon gives the 2015 its racy, exotic feel. Soft tannins (for a young Barolo) and lush, forward fruit add to its considerable appeal.
