Barolo 2008: The Incredible Lightness of Being (Apr 2012)

The 2009 Alteni di Brassica comes across as quite rich and textured in this vintage. White peaches, melon, flowers and sage are some of the notes that emerge in the glass, while typical varietal Sauvignon notes are more in the background.

Affordable Piedmont – Dolcetto, Barbera & Langhe Nebbiolo (Dec 2015)

The 2013 Alteni di Brassica is bright, energetic and vibrant, with lovely energy and overall tension. Still reticent and not fully expressive, the 2013 needs time to fully open up. Mint, green pear and white flowers add nuance on the chiseled, precise finish. This is a lovely showing from the Alteni. North-facing vineyards in Barbaresco…

In a Tuscan State of Mind (Aug 2013)

Mocha, espresso, black cherries, licorice and exotic spices wrap around the palate as the 2009 Camarcanda shows off its personality and pure class. This is a gorgeous Camarcanda endowed with superb textural richness and depth, all while maintaining an attractive, medium-bodied personality. Fine, silky tannins frame the finish.

Barbaresco – Out of the Shadows: The 2016s & 2015s (Oct 2018)

Gaja’s 2015 Barbaresco is gorgeous. Deep, pliant and resonant, the 2015 exudes class from the very first taste. Today, the aromatics are not especially open or expressive, but it is the wine’s depth and overall sense of harmony that really carry the day. Hints of orange peel, spice and rosewater give the 2015 an exotic…

2010 Brunello di Montalcino: A Promise Fulfilled (Feb 2015)

Dark red cherry, smoke, plum, wild flowers and cedar are some of the notes that flesh out in the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino from Castelgiocondo. Ripe, soft and textured on the palate, the 2010 impresses for its silkiness and early approachability. Sweet floral and spiced notes reappear on the finish, adding considerable lift and perfume….
