2001 Brunello Vintage (Aug 2006)

The 2000 Brunello di Montalcino is decidedly modern in style, with its super-dark color and prominent aromas of sweet toasted oak. On the palate it shows dark fruit and scorched earth nuances with reasonably good length although the tannins are somewhat astringent and the finish short. Anticipated maturity

Krug: 2006 In Three Acts (Sep 2020)

The 2006 Krug Vintage is fabulous. Here the richness, breadth and texture of Pinot come through loud and clear in a Champagne that is classic Krug. Red plum, coffee, spice, baked apple tart and lemon confit all flesh out effortlessly in the glass. The ripeness of the year is evident, and yet the vibrancy of…

Vinous Table: Burgundy Christmas Dinner (Mar 2022)

The 2006 Krug had a tough job following the 1988 Collection, but it performed well. It has an airy nose at first, then reveals citrus peel, apple tart and a slight metallic note that fortunately dissipates with aeration, eventually becoming quite floral. The palate is very harmonious, sylph-like in texture, and quite penetrating, with a…

Focus on Champagne (Nov 2003)

Exotic aromas of crystallized orange and lemon peel, toast, quinine and iodine. Fat, smooth and fairly full, with soft citrus, spice and earth flavors. A nicely harmonious ’96 with sweet middle-palate fruit, balanced for early enjoyment.

2006 and 2005 Rhone Valley Wines (Jan 2008)

Inky ruby. Deep, brooding and initially inscrutable, with uncannily concentrated blackberry and cassis scents. Rich dark fruit preserve flavors seem almost solid, but there’s wonderful vivacity too. Picks up supple tannins on the finish, which leaves a tattoo of black and blue fruits on the palate. Extremely primary right now.

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2004)

Dark red. Subdued, lightly herbal aromas of currant, blueberry, tobacco leaf, chocolate, menthol and shoe polish. Perfumed and penetrating, with a restrained sweetness and a slight herbal edge. Finishes youthfully dry, juicy and persistent. This very elegantly styled wine grew suppler with aeration, showing a flavor of bitter cherry and finish. Very Pauillac.
