2010 Red Burgundies (Jan 2012)

(tasted from tank; this was previously in 50% new oak): Deep red. Ripe aromas of dark raspberry, bitter chocolate and espresso. Flavors of crushed dark berries and tart cranberry are a bit hardened on the back end by slightly tough, oak-driven tannins. Not easy to taste today.

Bordeaux’s Radiant 2015s (Apr 2016)

The 2015 Gazin is dark, fleshy and wonderfully expressive. Mocha, bittersweet chocolate and a host of ripe dark fruit, along with the wine’s contours, give the 2015 much of its sumptuous personality. This is a decidedly plush, extracted style, but all the elements are nicely balanced throughout.

Bordeaux 2015 At Age Ten (Jun 2025)

The 2015 Gazin has a more floral bouquet compared to its Pomerol peers. This is fresh and vital with black truffle-infused red fruit and a dab of fresh tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and a mixture of red and black fruit. This is still resolutely classical in style with commendable sapidity toward…

Dance the Quickstep: Burgundy 2020 (Dec 2021)

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes has a clean and pure bouquet with perfumed raspberry and wild strawberry scents, a subtle earthiness underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine acidity, gentle grip with a nicely structured, Morey-like finish. Fine.

Vintage Port – The 2016 Declaration (Jun 2018)

The 1985 Taylor’s Vintage Port was one of my “go-to” Ports around 20 years ago, however, I suspect it has lost some of its initial vigor since then. It just lacks the gumption on the nose that I expected, yet it is still attractive with red berry fruit, clove and dried fig. It is rather…

The 2008 Clarets (Jul 2011)

Red-ruby. Perfumed aromas of redcurrant, licorice, chocolate, flowers and baking spices. Classic taut claret, showing insidious intensity without weight. Juicy, nicely delineated flavors of redcurrant, black cherry, pepper and herbs. Finishes vibrant and persistent, with ripe, dusty tannins and a lingering note of redcurrant.
