2012 and 2011 White Burgundies (Sep 2013)

Bright straw-yellow. Apple, smoky oak and subtle brown spices on the nose. Dry, juicy and on the lean side, showing very good cut to the flavors of peach, lemon, minerals and spices. Not a fleshy style of Charmes but sharply delineated and firmly built. Finishes dusty and classically dry, with good spicy intensity.

Blind Vision: 2015 Burgundy Red & White (Nov 2018)

The 2015 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos de la Bussières 1er Cru displays heavy reduction on the nose that obscures the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin, and quite animally in style but full of character, though the finish does not quite deliver the definition and vigor that I would have liked. Give it another two…

Red Burgundy ’16 & ’15: Superb Vintages, Different Styles (Jan 2018)

Good dark red. Darker and more medicinal than the village Chambolle, offering aromas of black cherry, mocha and menthol. Densely packed and fine-grained, with its flavors of black cherry, menthol, minerals and licorice showing very good verve considering the wine’s low acidity (3.1 grams per liter). But then the pH here is a reasonable 3.41….

2014 Red Burgundies: Delicious Terroir-Driven Midweights (Mar 2017)

Bright dark red. Open-knit aromas of raspberry, brown spices and chocolate. Densely packed and velvety for the vintage and for the cru, with red berry, brown spice and iron flavors complemented by a salty quality. This rich, rather pliant 2014 finishes with excellent length and smooth tannins. While it should offer considerable early appeal, it…

The 2013 Red Burgundies: Fascinating and Challenging (Mar 2016)

Bright, dark red-ruby. Dark berry aromas are complicated by musky earthy nuances. Concentrated, energetic wine with a chewy, tactile mouthfeel to its dark fruit flavors; fresh acidity gives it excellent inner-mouth tension. Finishes with firm but ripe tannins and building length. Very successful, solidly structured wine.
