Blind Vision: 2015 Burgundy Red & White (Nov 2018)

The 2015 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru has a generous bouquet of crushed strawberry, cranberry, pressed flowers and light gravelly scents. The palate is well defined with a fine bead of acidity, tight and a little backward at the moment, yet it is very well focused and blessed with a masculine, tensile finish that…

Red Burgundy ’16 & ’15: Superb Vintages, Different Styles (Jan 2018)

(12.8% alcohol, from fruit picked on September 2; vinified entirely with whole clusters and aged in 55% new oak): Good dark red. Very ripe, almost roasted aromas of currant liqueur, cherry and underbrush. In a powerful, thick, very dense style yet silky and nicely delineated as well, displaying compelling saline and mineral tones to its…

Back to Burgfest: 2017 Reds – Blind (Jan 2022)

The 2017 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of red berry fruit, rose petal and light earthy tones. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, and slightly chalky and gritty in texture. Sharp acidity on the finish oddly lends a Chianti-like allure. The 2012 Red Burgundies from Bottle (Mar 2015)

Good deep red. Slightly roasted red fruits and dried spices on the nose and palate. Sweet, thick and mouthfilling; almost Rhône-like in its ripeness without coming across as heavy. Finishes with noble tannins, excellent length and surprising vinosity.

The 2015 White Burgundies: A Year of Sunshine (Sep 2016)

Pale, bright yellow. Inviting aromas of peach, flowers and noble Puligny herbs, accented by spicy high notes. Sweet, slightly fat and easygoing in the mouth, showing noteworthy depth and richness to its flavors of citrus fruits and white flowers complicated by exotic suggestions of lichee and pineapple. Finishes with excellent length.

Red Burgundy ’16 & ’15: Superb Vintages, Different Styles (Jan 2018)

(just 25% lost to frost): Bright ruby-red; a bit less saturated than the Chambolle-Musigny Les Athets. Very expressive, mellow aromas of kirsch, leather, flowers, spices and chocolate. In a plush, relaxed, rather fat style, conveying an impression of lower acidity than the estate’s other 2016s. This comparatively sedate wine finishes with dusty but rather soft…
