2008 and 2007 Red Burgundies (Mar 2010)

Good bright red-ruby. High-pitched aromas of raspberry and orange peel. The palate offers a compelling combination of silky sweetness, spine and grip, with terrific verve to the flavors of raspberry and dusty minerality. Wonderfully juicy and delineated wine that seems much more Amoureuses than 2007. Finishes very long, vibrant and serene.

Back to Burgfest: 2017 Reds – Blind (Jan 2022)

The 2017 Pommard Les Rugiens-Bas 1er Cru has a clean, well-defined, terroir-driven bouquet that gains intensity with aeration. The beautifully proportioned palate delivers a fine bead of acidity, plenty of mineralité , and a precise, quite persistent finish that lingers in the mouth. Very fine and more-ish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

Vinous Table: Trivet, London, UK (Aug 2021)

Next came the 2007 Chambertin Grand Cru from Domaine Armand Rousseau. Unlike the Mugnier, the bouquet needs no time to warm up, exploding with enticing scents of raspberry, mulberry, touches of camphor and undergrowth, and, after 30 minutes, hints of Japanese green tea and clove. Exquisite in definition, this remained captivating throughout the evening. The…

Good full red-ruby. More reserved on the nose than the Beze, with terrific sappy verve to its aromas of dark fruits, violet, crushed stone, iron and camphor. Juicy, tightly wound and very intense on first pour, but opened spectacularly in the glass to show outstanding creamy depth without any loss of energy. Today the wine’s…

2019 Bordeaux from Bottle: The Two Towers (Feb 2022)

The 2019 Talbot is a powerful, earthy Saint-Julien. The tannins have never softened, though. Ultimately, Talbot feels a bit heavy, four-square and forbidding. Tasted two times.

Bordeaux 2019: The Southwold Tasting (Feb 2023)

The 2019 Talbot has a very peppermint scented nose that slightly obscures the terroir profile – quite opulent and showy. The palate is medium-bodied with that mintiness continuing, a little New World in style. A modern sheen here with a slightly confit finish. The imprimatur of the growing season is stronger here compared to others….
