2018 Burgundy: Confounded Expectations (Jan 2020)

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin "Mes Favourites" has a lifted, perfumed bouquet with floral scents permeating the vivid dark cherry and raspberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. A little rounder and showing more sucrosity than the "Symphonie," with a succulent finish. Lovely.

Loire Chenin Blanc: Chaume the Way (Jul 2024)

The 2022 Anjou Blanc is very restrained, with a delicate perfume of chamomile, spearmint and nectarine. There’s a round richness to the wine’s mid-palate, but it feels oh-so quiet. It’s not showy but restrained, elegant and fine-boned, which is quite the feat in this dry, warm year. Despite no malolactic, the acidity is relatively low…

Now, For My Latest Trick: Burgundy 2022 (Jan 2024)

The 2022 Bourgogne Blanc has quite a pithy, resinous bouquet that is quite cerebral for a regional white. The palate is medium-bodied with a waxy texture and fine acidity, actually quite Aligoté-like in style. Very fine.

Bonjour Jura! (Aug 2024)

The 2022 Pinot Noir Arbois Pupillin Courbes Raies unwinds with a distinctively floral perfume as rose petal and violets rise from the glass. Ripe red cherry and spicy nuances add more layers. Medium-bodied and polished, the juicy 2022 delights the taster with uplifting freshness. Round and complete, it walks off the stage with an elegant…

Vintage Port – The 2016 Declaration (Jun 2018)

The 1992 Taylor’s Vintage Port has a black/purple colour with only slight maturation on the rim. The nose has always been so intense, a kaleidoscope of damson, raspberry, crushed violets and just a touch of alcoholic warmth, yet somehow it retains incredible delineation. The palate is full-bodied with concentrated black fruit, the tannins having melted…

Pump Up The Volume: 2019 Burgundy – Blind (Dec 2023)

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts 1er Cru is not as defined on the nose as Mugneret-Gibourg’s Vosne-Romanée Village, showing perhaps more marine influence with hints of oyster shell permeating the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied and a little chewy in style with a gentle grip that imparts a sense of rusticity. Some whole…
