2015 Bordeaux: Every Bottle Tells a Story… (Feb 2018)

A dense, powerful Pomerol, the 2015 Hosanna hits the palate with a huge center of fruit and layers of flavor that open up effortlessly in the glass. Hosanna is easily the most exotically ripe, flamboyant wine in the Mouiex range. Dense, powerful and also quite structured, with huge tannins, Hosanna is going to need at…

2016 Bordeaux…It’s All In The Bottle (Jan 2019)

The 2016 Langoa Barton is succulent, racy and inviting, with striking textural richness and depth. Ripe dark plum, tobacco, cedar, licorice and spice are all generous in this racy, pliant Saint-Julien. The 2016 is an especially fine edition of Langoa-Barton and one of the sleepers of the vintage.

Southwold: 2016 Bordeaux Blind (Aug 2020)

The 2016 Langoa-Barton has a minty-fresh bouquet with plenty of black fruit; hints of pencil shavings and loamy elements develop with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy and generous, but I was expecting more detail and terroir expression to show on the chewy, pastille-like finish. Very fine, although I suspect there will…

Test of Endurance: Bordeaux 2014 Ten Years On (Mar 2024)

The 2014 La Conseillante has a wonderful bouquet with wild strawberry, cranberry, wilted rose petal, salted licorice and violet-like aromas. As I wrote previously, it gains intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiseled tannins and a keen line of acidity, the new oak now entirely subsumed with a precise and reasonably persistent…

2014 Bordeaux: A September Surprise (Feb 2017)

The 2014 La Conseillante is a pretty wine, but it is also a bit light in the context of the vintage. Sweet floral notes, exotic spice and bright red-toned fruit are nicely pushed forward. As always, La Conseillante is one of the most delicate and elegant of Pomerols. Still, tasting the 2014 and 2013 side…

Squares & Circles: Bordeaux ‘10 At Ten (Apr 2020)

The 2010 Chasse-Spleen offers attractive blackberry, briary, cedar and pinecone aromas on the Pauillac inspired nose. Good intensity here. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a fine bead of acidity with another graphite-infused, quite sharp finish. Very fine. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal.
