Bordeaux 2015 At Age Ten (Jun 2025)

The 2015 Quintus is a delightful Saint-Émilion that is drinking well at the moment. It has lovely briar and cedar scents on the nose (just like before) and demonstrates a little more freshness than the Pavie-Macquin alongside. The palate is well balanced with crisp and vivacious red fruit and slightly powdery tannins but clearly this…

Mother & Child: La Lagune 1962 – 2015 (Apr 2018)

The 2006 La Lagune has a deep colour. There is very good intensity on the nose for a 2006, quite pure with blackberry, briary and some blue fruit coming through with time, the oak nicely integrated and certainly more showy than the 2005. The palate is medium-bodied and for me, perhaps just a little over-extracted…

The Top Clarets of 2006 (May 2009)

Red-ruby. Sexy aromas of dark plum, chocolate, molten chocolate and smoky oak. Full, concentrated and sweet in the mouth, with ripe flavors of currant, plum and smoke. Thanks to the wine’s very good stuffing, the broad, sweet tannins come across as smooth today. Finishes with very good aromatic persistence. Quite harmonious already.

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2005)

(a 70/30 blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot) Good bright, deep ruby-red. Cool aromas of blackberry, cassis, mint and shoe polish. Juicy, lively and firm, with coolish flavors of cassis, shoe polish, licorice and mint. On the tough side, finishing with a firm tannic spine and good floral persistence.

A Century of Bordeaux: The Threes (Aug 2023)

The 2003 Rauzan-Ségla has a well-defined bouquet that is fresher than many 2003s at 20 years of age, with fragrant scents of blackberry, peony and iris flower. Good vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine acidity, taut and linear with a graphite-tinged, slightly tarry finish. Not bad at all, though I am not…

The Annual Red Bordeaux Report (May 2006)

Good red with a hint of development at the rim. Mellow aromas of sandalwood, mocha, coffee, smoked meat and nutty oak. Fat, round and sweet, with a silky texture but good rather than outstanding depth of flavor. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and good length.
