1997 and 1996 Red Burgundies (Mar 1999)

Brilliant ruby-red. Ineffable liqueur-like perfume combines blackberry, black raspberry, cassis, truffle and tar. Fat, sweet and dense but quite closed in the mouth; not yet showing La Tache’s typical licorice component. But a complete wine with superb structure and a very, very long and subtle aftertaste that builds slowly and saturates the olfactories.

2018 Burgundy: Confounded Expectations (Jan 2020)

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Village has a steely yet airy bouquet that does not quite entrance like the excellent Chassagne-Montrachet this year. But it is still very well defined, and it gains intensity with aeration. The palate is concentrated with a light honeyed note on the entry, veins of marmalade and quince betraying the slight grillé…

2017 White Burgundy: Quantity, Quality and Great Charm (Sep 2018)

Light, bright yellow. Aromas of white peach, noble herbs and toasty oak are lifted by a stony quality (none of these ’17s show any exotic character). Fine-grained, concentrated wine with sweet flavors of stone fruits and white flowers nicely framed by harmonious acidity. This wine really benefited from the dry growing season, noted Alexandre Bachelet,…

Squares & Circles: Bordeaux ‘10 At Ten (Apr 2020)

The 2010 Palmer has an outgoing, intense and multifaceted bouquet with black cherries, boysenberry, crushed violets and hints of cassis – your quintessential Margaux turned up to eleven. The palate is medium-bodied with very supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Headier than its Margaux peers, it builds in the mouth with a complex,…

The 2010 Clarets: A Modern Classic (Jul 2013)

Bright, deep medium ruby. Exotic, expressive nose offers blueberry, black cherry, violet, bitter chocolate, licorice, smoke and spices, with a subtle leather nuance in the deep background. The tightly coiled, penetrating palate offers uncanny density without weight, with dark berry and floral flavors enlivened by deep minerality. A wine of outstanding clarity, energy and class….

Bordeaux 2010: All That Glitters… (May 2011)

(a blend of 54% merlot, 40% cabernet sauvignon and 6% petit verdot; 90 IPT; 3.66 pH; 14.5 % alcohol) Deep ruby-red. Captivatingly deep, brooding aromas of blackcurrant, violet and dried herbs. Rich, suave and fine-grained, with delicate blackberry, cassis and mineral flavors. In a distinctly elegant style thanks to lively harmonious acids. The broad, long,…
