2009 Red Burgundies (Mar 2012)

Dark red. Wild, leathery, musky nose offers a strong raspberry jam quality and a decadent aspect. Supple, sweet and full, but a bit leathery and roasted for this cuvee, with a distinctly creamy texture. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins. Very rich but not my favorite style of Chambolle.

The 2009 Clarets (Jul 2012)

Bright ruby-red. Robust aromas of blackberry, chocolate and flowers. Then subdued, dry and classic on the palate, with very good stuffing to its slightly medicinal dark berry, chocolate and menthol flavors. Rather elegantly styled wine with solid tannic structure and very good length.

Bordeaux 2009: The Best Ever? (May 2010)

Deep purple. Coffee, green tea, plum jam and vanilla on the nose. Enters sweet and full, then shows a juicy personality to the black fruit flavors, and attractive stony minerality on the persistent, satisfying finish. A highly successful d’Angludet and a good example of the higher-than-normal overall quality achieved in Margaux in 2009.

A Test Of Greatness: 2009 Bordeaux Ten Years On (March 2019)

The 2009 d’Angludet has a slightly more herbaceous bouquet than its peers, undergrowth and cedar notes infusing the black fruit, sultry at first but opening with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with red fruit on the entry, tobacco and ferrous notes on the back palate but it lacks a little weight and grip towards the…

Buckle Your Seatbelts: 2019 Brunello and 2021 Rosso di Montalcino (Dec 2023)

Smokey and intense, with crushed ashen stones, savory herbs, ground ginger and dried black cherries forming its dramatic bouquet, the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Suolo blossoms in the glass. This is velvety and texturally deep, with brisk acidity motivating its tart wild berry fruits as orange traces add lovely contrast. Its minerality comes…

Blind Vision: 2015 Burgundy Red & White (Nov 2018)

The 2015 Chambertin Grand Cru has a very sensual, pure bouquet that blooms with red cherries, red currant jus, crushed stone and a touch of sous-bois, all exquisitely defined and pixelated to the nth degree. The palate is extremely well balanced, offering fine, saturated tannin, a killer line of acidity and a precise, mineral-soaked, persistent…
