Dance the Quickstep: Burgundy 2020 (Dec 2021)

The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis La Forge de Tart 1er Cru has quite a high-toned and overtly floral bouquet, the 20% whole bunch neatly disguised. There is a touch of mint that emerges with time. The palate is very harmonious, silky smooth tannins, the 50% new oak seamlessly integrated. This is a clear level up from the…

Now, For My Latest Trick: Burgundy 2022 (Jan 2024)

The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Village is made in an accessible style, according to Carillon, with part of the blend from 10-year-old vines and seeing 20% new barrels. It has an open bouquet with yellow fruit and light honeysuckle scents. Well-defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly honeyed opening and a dab of stem ginger, quite…

Servants of the Seasons: Burgundy 2021 (Jan 2023)

The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Village has a strict bouquet that is reminiscent of a fine Chablis. Fine definition. The palate is well-balanced, strict, very saline and quite penetrating with a very malic finish. This is quite difficult to hold on to now.

Central Spain: Tempranillo and Beyond (Dec 2015)

(aged in 100% new 500-liter French oak barrels): Opaque purple. An exotic, kaleidoscopic bouquet of dark fruit preserves, incense, Indian spices and fresh flowers, with cola and mocha nuances gaining power as the wine opens with air. Stains the palate with sweet blackberry and mulberry flavors that are lifted by juicy acidity and a hint…

A Century of Bordeaux: The Nines (Sep 2019)

The 1989 Cos d’Estournel has a deep garnet core with some bricking on the rim. On the nose, it shows exactly the same as before, offering a gorgeous mélange of mulberry, rust, fennel and light garrigue notes, very well defined and even a little rustic in style. The aromatics have aged better than the medium-bodied…

1982 Bordeaux, 20 Years On (Jul 2002)

Full medium ruby. High-pitched, perfumed aromas of dark berries, minerals and violet; very cabernet. Rich, dense and youthful; broad and beefy, with cassis, black cherry and bitter chocolate flavors. Finishes very sweet and long, with fine tannins spreading out impressively to coat the palate. A great showing. Drink now through 2015.
