Châteauneuf-du-Pape Reds: The Flamboyant 2014s and the Structured 2013s (Apr 2016)

Opaque ruby. A sexy, intensely perfumed bouquet evokes fresh blue fruits, Asian spices, smoky minerals and candied flowers. Sappy, expansive and pure on the palate, offering impressively concentrated black raspberry and boysenberry flavors that become livelier and sweeter with air. Ripe and broad yet lithe on the tenacious finish, which displays sneaky tannins and repeating…

Sonoma, Anderson Valley and Beyond: New Releases (Jan 2015)

The 2013 Chardonnay Les Noisetiers is a very pretty, appellation-level Chardonnay from Kistler. Apricot jam, flowers, tangerine, hazelnut and almond notes are woven together in a silky, supple Chardonnay built on texture and nuance. The 2012 is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years. It is also the only Kistler Chardonnay that…

2007 and 2006 White Burgundies (Sep 2008)

Pale yellow color. Aromas of lemon, menthol and honey; very Chassagne. Then supple, full and sweet, with ripe acidity framing the wine’s fruit. Finishes fresh and persistent.

Central Spain: Tempranillo and Beyond (Dec 2015)

Opaque ruby. Deeply pitched black and blue fruit aromas are complicated by suggestions of mocha, licorice, cigar box and floral oils. Lush and broad on the palate, offering intense cassis and boysenberry flavors braced by juicy acidity. This plush, generous wine shows unlikely vivacity and finishes very long and sweet, with gentle tannins lending shape.

Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc (Sep 2014)

Greenish yellow. Lime and quince on the nose, with dusty mineral and honeysuckle qualities adding complexity. Drier and racier than the 2011, showing impressive definition to its citrus and floral flavors. Finishes with mineral thrust and spicy length. Still closed and a touch austere, but shows the superb potential of the 2010 vintage.
