2007 and 2005 Sauternes and Barsacs (Jul 2008)

Full yellow-gold. Expressive aromas of pineapple, coconut, sweet vanillin oak and spices. Then wonderfully thick, fat and sweet, with the exotic coconut character carrying through in the mouth. Finishes saline and powerful, with palate-staining flavors of pineapple, coconut and spicy oak. Conveys a strong impression of solidity.

2000, 1999 and 1998 Bordeaux (May 2001)

Medium-deep red. Redcurrant, currant leaf, graphite and spices on the nose. Fleshy and sweet, with nicely concentrated, moderately dense cherry, licorice, cedar and mineral flavors. Very sauvignon. Finishes fresh, with a slightly medicinal quality and somewhat austere tannins.

Champagne: The 2024 Spring Preview (Mar 2024)

Pol Roger’s 2018 Brut Rosé is an attractive wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Crushed flowers, red cherry fruit, chalk, mint and white pepper all grace this tasty, mid-weight Rosé. The 2018 can be enjoyed as an apéritif, but it also has the substance to pair well with a variety…

Pol Roger: 2022 New Releases (Mar 2022)

The 2015 Brut Vintage is a very pretty Champagne to drink now and over the next decade or so. Gentle hints of apricot, spice, dried flowers and baked apple tart lend quite a bit of nuance. There’s gorgeous vinous intensity to the 2015 accompanied by a whole range of citrus, floral and chalk overtones that…

The 2008 Clarets (Jul 2011)

Bright, full ruby. Enticing aromas of raspberry, black cherry, meat and spices, complicated by fresh minerality. Suave and stylish, with a lush texture and very rich, deep flavors of dark fruits and chocolate lifted by an intense floral component. Persistent and perfumed on the very long, smooth finish. A large-scaled Hosanna with outstanding potential.

Bordeaux ’08: Far Better Than Expected (May 2009)

Dark ruby-purple. Closed nose hints at blackcurrant, blueberry, meat and game. Massively rich wine, featuring ripe black fruit flavors, tobacco and sweet spices. Finishes very long and seamless, with silky tannins. Though Christian Moueix has told me he considers Hosanna a feminine wine compared to the more masculine Petrus, this year’s version is a female…
